My God

To error is God, to forgive is human....

Is that blasphemous, or true?

Diplomacy

Isn't diplomacy a funny thing? Follow the rules and guidelines of our diplomacy or we will kill you...essentially, that's what everyone has said to everyone else recently...or forever for that matter.

Business Opportunity

I was out talking to a guy today who presented me with an interesting business opportunity. The opportunity is so compelling that none other than The Big Guy, the Trumpster, The Donald, the One and Only, Donald Trump is endorsing it and promoting it. If you want more information on this, send an email to opportunity-subscribe@gajventures.com

If you want to make a lot of money fast, send that email.

Exercises in Narcissism

OK, first off, apologies to everyone for the Everything Montreal web directory being on the fritz; looks like a database that I ma have to rebuild, but hopefully not.
Ditto for New Automobile Models web directory, Baer Art -art, artists, and art galleries directory, and the xxx directory.

Anyways,
you can still add your links but I'm not sure that if I have to rebuild that I can save them. For now, I suggest adding links to the following directories:
All about North America
Business Directory
Garfield Jones web directory
and of course
eccuelectronics.com
gajhosting.com
Wine Makers
Automobiles.everythingmontreal.com
Thebestdamnpokersite.com
Poker Voyages

Now for the narcissism part. I checked the following search terms on yahoo and found that my sites were in the top 5:
everything montreal
garfield jones
baer art

so yeah...I'm feeling pretty good about myself :)

Party at the Docs

It was a busy week last week:
-Thursday we had our first poker school hosted by me the pokerpal (poker supplies)- the school was a great success and I will be able to judge how well it went this week at BNI
-Friday was my tournament at Natalinos Restaurant- I did not play but the tournament went well. Syringe and Stephan decided to split almost $3000 between them.
-Saturday was a great day, played poker in the QPT (Quebec Poker Tour) but the real fun was going to Doctor Machan's with Jeannie for his father's birthday. We were introduced to a great bunch of people in his family. The Doctor is an extremely pleasant, interesting, and humorous guy.

The highlight of the night was not me teaching poker but listening to the singers. Jo Anne Mitchell voice instructor and vocalist, has discovered a superb new talent in vocalist Jenna-Lee, a precocious 11 year old with a big sound. Her voice is crystal- clean, clear, pleasing, dramatic. In a few short years, this kid will be hailed as a prodigy ala Leann Rhymes. Contact her manager.

Mouldy stuff as Jess would say

Guys,
I had been looking for this thing for a while and, out of the blue,
someone sent it to me...If you are receiving this, it is because I
consider that you have had some sort of impact on my life...
Thanks,
Roberto

Old Journals and Notes

two things today, one political one not...start with the not.

I was looking through my old journals and old notebooks and found this piece of poetry I wrote. I'll write it here and then eventually get around to adding it to the poetry section of the main Garfield Jones site:

Farewell my Spring Friend,
Goodbye my summer love;
You are fall's hope,
And for now, a winter's dream.

Farewell my spring friend;
For when we met,
The world held out good tidings,
The cold's work was on the mend-
To the warm rays it was forfeit,
And we were prepped for love.

Goodbye my summer love;
The leaves shine green,
The path is clear;
And your wings have dried.
Time tells you to take flight,
For love so hot
Should never be so near;
Though with love,
You have been inspired.

I stand now with my fall's hope,
That a journey of success follows you,
And peace rests in your heart;
Freedom unbinds its unkind rope;
Which to now, cut off your yearning;
The jagged egdes left behind,
On your way to a new start.

What rests now are my winter's dream;
That enlightenment will come to you,
And I will again be favored in your thoughts;
I wait- an eternity it may seem-
For fall to come through the summer blue;
And hope my wait,
Is not all for naught.

Now trhe politics, my buddy is on crack arguing that Pakistan is freer and more deomocratic than the US. Just felt that I should mention that here, since he comes up with absurd arguments to try to prove his point. It all stemmed from me asking a question during a discussion recently- the question was, can anyone be elected President of Pakistan? His answer was yes. YES...he says YES knowing that the country is being ruled by a military dictatorship. I brought up the point that Imran Khan was arrested for trying to organize a protest, he points out that Khan is probably the best person to rule Pakistan. I ask him if Imran Khan can run for political office, he says Khan always runs...

Anyways, it was pointless, since his vapid hatred of all things American makes him believe that Pakistan is more democratic and freer than the USA...absurdity and hypocrisy at its peak!

Masks, cellulars, and flowers

Today is a pretty busy day and it's almost an all BNI W.I.T. day. I met with Guy from Cellular Solutions. We talked cell phones, poker, blackberries, etc. He can get the latest greatest in wireless products and he gets them before they hit the market in North America by importing them directly from Europe and the Middle East (Dubai).

Later on I need to meet with Peter from Westmount Florists

The most interesting place I visited is a place called Masks etc I spoke to one of the owners/partners named Basil who is also in my BNI group. Upon entering, I was stunned at the sheer beauty and volume of the artifacts in the place. It's an impressive display of masks, weapons, furniture, etc all with an African theme.

Basil is a passionate dealer of these products and seems familiar with each individual item (and there are hundreds if not thousands), the history, the cultural significance, the tribe that produced it, and the country where it originates. Personally, I believe each piece should come with a certificate of authenticity supplied by Masks ETC Basil himself I believe is, can, or should be qualified to sign the certificate.

There are those who would question the ethics of what Basil does without understanding what it is that he does. He imports art from different parts of Africa to resell all around the world. His efforts directly support 500+ families in Africa who otherwise would have few other ways to make a living, and I applaud him for it.

When I spoke to him, you can sense his passion for Africa and for Africans. He himself is South African and left for practical personal reasons, apartheid being one of them. One of his proudest traditions is the humanitarian aid he has helped to organize to benefit orphans in Africa. There is a genuine thrill when he speaks of the crates that are packed and shipped off with donated goods to help Africans.

If you are looking to add a bit of African culture to your decorating theme, think of Masks ETC- their contact information is below.

My Generation

Just a quick thought

The problem with my generation is that we never had to fight for anything. We grew up in between the Vietnam war and the Gulf war, that's about 20 years of no major conflict that we could throw our young muscles behind. You might even say more time than that since the Gulf War wasn't really a fair fight anyways...so we could stretch that out and say 30 years.

We are the victims of peace!

We understand the concepts of fight, of fighting, of conflit but we really don't appreciate any of that in the gravest possible sense. How are we going to run countries, companies, and corporations when we are used to creating conflict strictly for our amusement. And make no doubt about it, we are going to be running things...are we prepared?
